With many things in life, I like to take two extreme perspectives, much like the Barbell Strategy. You can apply the Barbell Strategy to just about anything in life. I’d like to write more on the subject, and show detailed examples of how it can be used to help people in many different contexts.
The Folding of Time
I have an idea for a science fiction novel I’d like to write. It’s based on the idea that scientists developed a time machine, but because the scientists’ understanding of time was flawed, the time machine didn’t work as intended. Instead of going to a different time, the time machine stayed in the same place and dragged the present back with it into the past, effectively “folding” time.
Technology Exploration
Technological fields such as immunotherapy, big data, machine learning, nanotechnology, robotics, virtual/augmented reality, genetic engineering, quantum computing, and autonomous driving are experiencing rapid change. I’d like to learn more about each of these cutting edge technologies and share my findings.
Custom Baseball Cards
With a stack of cardstock, an inkjet printer, and graphics software, I can create replicas of rare cards, design cards that I wish existed, and make my own sets of baseball cards.
World Cookbook
I’d like to write a cookbook with a recipe from each culinary culture in the world. Instead of dividing the world’s cuisines by country, I want to divide them by region and culture. That way, the cuisines from different cultures can be properly distinguished from each other, even if they are from neighboring regions.
Minimalist Cookbook
I want to reduce classic dishes down to the most barebones ingredients. Once you do that, you can create simple dishes with the finest ingredients. By cooking with minimal ingredients, cooking becomes more fun and less of a pain.
