The world is massive, and cannot be fully explored in a lifetime.
Whenever we encounter anything in amounts that cannot be feasibly explored in totality, we must curate.
Nearly 4 million new YouTube videos are uploaded every day. You can’t view them all, but you can view four of the best ones each day. You need a way to find the four “one in a million” videos to watch each day.
Over 300,000 new book titles are published each month. You can’t read them all, but you can read one of the best ones every month. You need a way to find the best new book to read every month.
There are almost 200 countries in the world. There are about 10,000 cities in the world. There are tens of thousands of places worth visiting in the world. You can’t visit them all. Even if you could, you only be able to visit each one at one particular time. Visiting one place twenty years apart can be two very different experiences. Again, we must curate.
If you could only visit one tourist attraction while in Rome, would it be the Colosseum, the Pantheon, or the Trevi Fountain? That’s the type of question I hope to answer using curated travel destination maps.
My vision for this project is to build interactive maps showing every destination travelers may be interested in. I would use my travel destination rating system to rank the destinations so that it’s easier for people to build itineraries using the maps.
Here’s an example map using Google Maps, showing the New 7 Wonders of the World.
