Most people read books and then make exactly zero changes to their life. I’m frequently guilty of this myself. If we read books, then change nothing in our lives, what’s the point of it all?
The Pareto Principle states that for many outcomes, roughly 80% of consequences come from 20% of causes. It’s better known as the 80/20 Rule. It’s also the ultimate efficiency tool.
Book summaries essentially condense books into the most useful 20% of information. There are many book summarization services out there. Blinkist and GetAbstract come to mind immediately. Derek Sivers and Blas have also summarized hundreds of books on his website.
We could read book summaries and try to implement what we read… but what if we took it even further? What if we took 365 of the best books, read one summary each morning, and then made sure we implemented at least one takeaway from the summary, on that day? That’s the most efficient way I can think of for books to change your life.
