I bought the classic boardgame HeroQuest and a few of its expansions when Hasbro brought it back a few years ago. I had fun playing the game with my sons, but we recently started playing Dungeons & Dragons (DnD) instead. HeroQuest started feeling too simplistic and constraining. It became a game of endless dice rolling to kill endless monsters.
But it feels like such a waste to simply stop playing HeroQuest, especially when I’ve invested so much money in buying expansion packs that will now never get played. My solution is to port the HeroQuest content over to DnD as a new campaign setting.
Of course, DnD allows for a much richer, detailed experience. Porting HeroQuest to DnD would be a lot like porting a pixelated 1980s Nintendo game into a modern high-res 3D game. It would require a lot of embellishment and filling in of details that don’t exist in HeroQuest. It sounds like a fun challenge!
