Role playing games (RPGs) and stories are all about the characters. The characters make or break a story, and a strong character can make a story memorable and enduring.
While players will want to create their own heroes to play, the Dungeon Master (DM) may find it helpful to find a collection of strong heroes or villains to use as non-player characters (NPCs) or as an antagonist to the players.
Ultimately, this idea should take the form of an app that can randomly generate heroes or villains on demand. It can also be a book of tables that allow the DM to quickly roll for an NPC.
Randomly generated characters
I set up a rudimentary system using the information provided in Dungeon’s & Dragons Player’s Handbook (2024) to randomly generate three sample characters. These three characters can probably be used as villains and antagonists to the players.
Dragonborn wild magic sorcerer with charlatan background. Speaks Common sign language and Gnomish. Chaotic Neutral. Level 4
Elf Circle of the Land Druid with guard background. Speaks Elvish, Orcish, and Goblin. Chaotic Neutral. Level 11.
Orc aberrant sorcery sorcerer with a wayfarer background. Speaks Orcish, Elvish, and Halfling. Chaotic Evil. Level 3.
